This course will use a practical approach to reflect upon critical aspects of enterprise risk management (ERM) that risk managers have found to be challenging. The course will include facilitated workshops, group and individual case studies, and some lecture. In group exercises you will be assigned a role to engage the needs and concerns of different stakeholders who are integral to the risk management process. At the end of each session, you will be given an opportunity to note lessons learned and follow-up items in your “Our Risk Management Plan” in the participant notebook so that you can begin applying these ideas immediately. Cases, exercises, and workshops will be drawn from different types of organizations in order to enrich and diversify the subjects.

christopherDr.Christopher Ketcham, Ph.D., CPCU, CRM, CIC, CFP® is the former Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Houston Downtown Department of Business, in the Insurance and Risk Management Department. He and co-author Jean-Paul Louisot have written two practical texts on enterprise risk management. First in 2009, Enterprise Risk Management: Developing and Implementing was written for The Institutes as the first textbook for their ARMe designation program. The second book entitled Enterprise Risk Management: Issues and Cases from Wiley and Sons, was written in 2014. It includes case studies and interviews with practicing risk managers who reflect upon successes, challenges, and even disappointments. Dr. Ketcham’s mission is to develop practical and useful ways of helping risk managers present the case for and then successfully implement ERM in their organizations. This effort includes developing and facilitating hands-on practical classes and writing texts that present the tools and processes that risk managers have found to be most successful in their organizations. Dr. Ketcham has a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, a Masters from St.John’s University in Manhattan, and a Bachelor’s degree from Union College in Schenectady, New York. He also has experience in commercial lines underwriting for AIG and as a broker for Sentry Insurance.
